Singer sets blind speed record in Ferrari

URFA, Turkey – Turkish pop-singer Metin Senturk became the world’s fastest unaccompanied blind driver on Friday and said he felt he had danced with death.

Senturk wept as he emerged from a Ferrari F430 at Urfa airport in eastern Turkey to learn from Guinness World Records officials his average speed of 292.89 kph (180 mph) broke the previous record of 284 kph (176 mph), held by a British bank manager.

“I don’t think there are any words to describe this feeling. I am really happy. It was really hard, like a dance with death,” said Senturk, who has been blind since the age of three.

California car dealer buys cache of Ferraris

A collection of 21 Ferraris has changed hands, and it’s headed for the United States.

Car collector Tom Price, owner of Price Family Dealerships in Marin County, Calif., bought 21 classic Ferraris. The collection hit the market last year as Dutch vehicle-distributor Kroymans entered into bankruptcy.

Broker Thomas Hamann, owner of Hamann Classic Cars in Riverside, Conn., said he had been working to sell the collection of Ferraris since last May. The deal closed on Feb. 2, he said.

Hamann said this was one of the largest lots of Ferraris to be sold in recent years. A larger sale happened in 1992, Hamann said, when Swiss businessman Albert Obrist sold his collection of factory racing Ferraris to Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone.

Hamann would not comment on the sale price of the Ferrari collection to Price. Speculation in collector-car circles puts the sale price at about $30 million. Hamann said Price intends to sell some of the Ferraris in the lot he bought.

The list of Ferraris bought by Price includes:

– 250 Europa GT

– 375 America

– 250 Boano

– 250 GT Berlinetta SWB

– 250 Testa Rossa

– 250 GTO

– 275 GTB/4 driven by three-time Le Mans winner Luigi Chinetti

– 330 GTC

– 365 GTS

– 365 GTB/4 Daytona Coupe

– 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder

– 246 GTS Dino Spyder

– 365 GT4/BB

– 512 BB

– 550 Barchetta

Tod’s for Ferrari Driving Mocassins

Imagen 33

See that polo-sporting playboy climbing out of the Ferrari convertible? Look at his shoes. They’re probably made by Tod’s. The Italian shoemaker has become synonymous with the exotic automaker, and not just because the chairman of the latter sits on the board of the former. Now the two kindred spirits have come together for a special line of driving mocs made by one for the other.

The Tod’s for Ferrari line consists of three models – the Leccetto (with laces), the Laccetto Tubi GT (with tassels) and the Mascherina Griglia (with a special emblem styled after the grille of the iconic 250 GTO). The latter two are available in black and brown suede, with the former also available in red and blue (in true Elvis style). Each feature insoles ribbed like the seats of a Ferrari sportscar, and are made in the same time-honored tradition that makes any pair of Tod’s loafers indispensable for the playboy lifestyle. They sell for 290 to 320 euros, and are available directly from Ferrari’s online store.

One-of-a-Kind Ferrari-based Sbarro Lista Office Debuts in Germany

Imagen 31

If you’re wealthy, you can buy a Ferrari. But if you’re truly wealthy, you can commission your own. Coachbuilt examples of Maranello’s finest have a deep history that has come up to the present date with such examples as Zagato 550 GTZ and this, the Sbarro Lista Office.

Based on the 80s-era Ferrari Testarossa, the strangely-named Lista Office is the fourth in Swiss designer Franco Sbarro’s Alcador series, and the third iteration of the modern Alcador GTB. Commissioned by a Swiss car collector by the name of Lienhard, the Lista Office was unveiled this past weekend at the Essen tuner show in Germany. No word on how much Lienhard had to pay for the privilege, but you can bet it cost a fair bit more than stock.

Luxury + Supercar Weekend

Vancouver, BC… Automotive luxury, performance and passion heat up Vancouver’s waterfront at Canada’s first annual
Luxury + Supercar
event.

While there is some debate about the origin of the term “supercar”, British motor journalist L.J.K. Setright claims to have coined the word in the 1960’s while writing about the Lamborghini Miura. Used to describe the most prestigious designs and engineering advances in automobiles, supercars are created to showcase supreme advancements in technology and are often designed to push the limits of speed. They are generally not profitable for manufacturers. Only limited quantities are produced, which end up in private collections never to be viewed by the public.

Vancouver’s Luxury + Supercar Weekend welcomes luxury and supercar dealers, private collectors and auto enthusiasts from around the world to discover a rarely seen, prestigious line-up of automotive excellence, including the world’s fastest Enzo, Maserati MC12, Saleen S7 TT, 251 mph Bugatti Veyron, Spyker, 1000 HP Wide Body Lamborghini Murcielago, the Supercar that started it all and the 1967 Lamborghini Miura, plus the hybrid Luxury cars of the future.

“We’re thrilled to bring to the spectacular City of Vancouver this premiere event that promises to be an inspiring and educational experience. It is an exclusive opportunity to discover and celebrate innovation in high-performance and sustainable technology, premier craftsmanship and luxurious style, while exploring the passion and vision behind many of the world’s greatest automotive designers and manufacturers”, says Craig Stowe, President of Luxury + Supercar Weekend.
